What would you do if you had to place multiple roles, fill a customer service center with over three hundred representatives, and hire a new internal recruiter? What if your time frame was uncompromising, a plethora of opportunities around the corner and growth was inevitable?
It was in this scenario that a top tier firm in the financial services industry found itself in late 2021. Reeling from the initial shock waves of the pandemic and presented with opportunity, the firm faced a seemingly impossible task: hire, hire, hire, in absence of an internal recruiter to handle the process. Faced with this dilemma, the firm reached out to Shepherd Search Group.
In the second half of 2021, our offices across the country were hard at work assisting companies rebound from the initial COVID-19 economic impact. As uncertainty and illness gripped the workplace, the hiring process was no stranger to the changes being embraced by the world. Initial interviews were conducted remotely. COVID testing was mandatory. Corporations were rushing to rebuild, following the COVID inspired nationwide layoffs.
Amidst a rush of orders from clients across the country, our recruiters were contacted by the aforementioned firm. “What solutions can you offer?” they were asked. “And how soon?”
Recruiting From A To Z
After decades of addressing the various needs of our clients, we had just the tools at the ready to assist the firm. Our first step was to begin the search for Regional Vice Presidents at their request. Several RVPs were hired in quick succession, following a steady flow of CVs and interviews. However, without an internal recruiter and with a brand new customer service center that required staffing, what could be done to locate the most excellent and relevant talent in a timely fashion? Enter step two: Shepherd On-Site. In January of 2022, a senior Shepherd Search Group recruiter joined the firm’s team on-site. What began as a step towards further identifying with the firm, its values and goals, and its people, developed into a full blown partnership in every step of the recruitment process. One on-site recruiter became three, plus an internal one. Four RVPs became eight. A vacant room was transformed into a vibrant and energetic customer service center.
Beyond The Numbers: The Power Of Value Sharing
People are far more complex and profound than the numbers that represent them. Over the course of the months (and indeed, years, following the completion of this project) which our recruiters spent working with the firm – first from the Shepherd offices, and later on-site – they strived to incorporate the values and vision of our client into their hiring practices. The result was an efficient process, satisfied hiring officers, and recruits who chose to remain with the firm for years to come. They focused not on quantity, but on quality. They worked not with quotas, but with people. They did not simply recruit; they formed partnerships between existing staff and new recruits that would survive the test of time.
The Test Of Time
A working relationship born in the turbulent times of three years ago has evolved into a partnership that lasts until this day. Together with its newly assembled dream team, the firm’s intense growth spurt bore fruit beyond what it dared to dream. Ultimately, the firm hired one of Shepherd’s key recruiters to take advantage of the training and skills developed at SSG which it has actively utilized across their talent acquisition team.
To date, Shepherd has filled more than twenty senior roles within the firm, and is currently working on several more.
